What Sport Starts With The Letter F?

1. Fencing

Fencing

Fencing is a sport that involves weapon fighting, this isn’t the easiest way to explain it but, let us try to break it down. Firstly, fencing has to do with three different disciplines. We have the foil, the epee, and the Sabre. You have. You have a weapon given to you as a fencer, the only way to win is to make contact with your weapon on your opponent. That is, while the players are hitting each other’s weapons, they try to make a contact with that weapon and the opponent’s body. This isn’t a deadly weapon as it isn’t sharp in any way. Both players use protective suits too. Fencing is known to be one of the first sports to be featured in the Olympics. It was based on the formal skills of sportsmanship as it all began in the 19th century. 

2. Field Hockey 

Field hockey is known to be a team sport and is somehow similar to hockey. Both teams on the court are obligated to have at least ten players on the field with one goalkeeper to make them eleven. Also, every player has to know how to carry the hockey ball which is made out of hard plastic and a round shape. This ball is to be carried with the hockey stick until the player can put the hockey ball in the opponent’s net. The game is a modernized one and was first originated in the 19th century in England, United Kingdom. The game is popular in different regions of the world, for instance, it is played in western Europe, the South of Asia, southern Africa, New Zealand, Argentina, and some parts of the United States. The game is known mainly as hockey but it is called field hockey because there is also ice hockey during the winter. 

3. Figure Skating

This is a short whereby every player on each team has to perform on I’ve with figure skates. It was one of the first winter sports to ever be drafted in the Olympics. This was 1908, in the London Olympics. It is played in different disciplines in the Olympics, there is the Men’s singles, women singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. All of these disciplines are also made into a team event when it was first drafted in the winter Olympics in 2014. The disciplines are synchronized skating, Theatre in ice, and four skatings. There are also two levels involved, the senior level and the intermediate level. In addition, two programs are involved here, the short program and the free skate. 

4. Football(Gridiron)

Gridiron

Gridiron is also known as football for North Americans. It is especially played by those in the United States and Canada. It is also known as American football to many other people, sometimes it is called Gridiron. A nickname that was given to it by the fans. It features 11 players for teams in the United States, the teams in Canada play 12 players in one game. Most times the smaller teams have eight players, these are not the teams at the professional level. The game is played at high school, college, and professional levels. Each level has a form of difficulty as it goes higher. The sport was first created in the 19th century, the game was like a replica of a much older game known as rugby. After the game was created from this game, the Americans and Canadians started to improve on themselves while copying different features from each other. The game wasn’t very safe at first until they started employing the use of safety equipment in the field to avoid casualties. 

5. Football(Soccer)

Football is a team sport that is mostly about each team on both aside of the field trying to make sure they have a higher possession of the ball than their opponents and then kicking it into the opponent’s post to score the goal. The sport is called football, and the way it is played, this game is a football game because you have to use your legs when playing the ball. In some places, it is called Soccer just because they try to avoid contradicting gridiron which is also called football. 

Football was first created in the 19th century, it originated from the Europeans, British people to be precise. It became one of the first professional sports in the 20th century and different kinds of football are known to be the most popular sports in the history of mankind. Football is known for its common rules, for instance, in each game, every club is supposed to have a minimum of 11 players and a maximum of 18 for substitution. It is always played on a field of grass with two goalposts.  To gain a point in football, you have to score a goal which means you have to take the ball to the opposing side of the field and hit it to go into the post planted on their side of the post. 

There are common skills involved in football to help every team win. Skills like passing, tackling, catching, and kicking. We also have an interception, dribbling, and shooting. It is such a fun game with over 3 billion of the world’s population as fans.
